2012 Winter Indoor DC Armory League Registration

Submissions for this form are closed.

Cost: $50/person

Location: DC Armory – located next to the Stadium Armory Metro Station on the Orange Line, plus we will have dedicated parking provided. Directions - http://www.dcsportsent.com/venues/dc-armory/metro-and-directions/

Game Nights: Tue 1/3, Tue 1/10, Mon 1/16, Tue 1/24, Tue 1/31, Tue 2/7, Thur 2/9, Tue 2/14,

Game Times: There will be two rounds of games each night, the first from 7:15-8:20 pm and the second from 8:35-9:40 pm. Your team may have one game in either time slot each night, as well as a game in both slots on certain nights.

Pick Up: Each night there will be open pickup from 6:00-7:00 pm for all league members prior to the start of league games.

Number of Games: Every team will have at least 12 games. Winter Weather may cause certain nights to be cancelled, or other last minute emergencies at the Armory. Any cancelled night will be rescheduled if at all possible, but there are no guarantees.

Rosters: We are striving for 12 teams of 15 players each with a gender ratio of 3 men to 2 women. Thus, we will be capping the number of males at 110 and putting any further males on a waiting list. If we do not reach the required number of females to do a 3:2 league, then we will let males in off the waiting list. Teams are formed by assigning individuals to teams based on their skill level to form teams as even as possible.

Fields: The surface of the Armory floor is hardwood and you are required to play in sneakers. The typical field will be about 50% bigger than a basketball court, but this is subject to change each night if we are missing any part of the Armory floor for a special event. There are certain danger spots on the floor such as metal coverings and other slightly raised surfaces that you will be required to play on and sometimes the sidelines might need to be set up close to a wall or the bleachers.

Experience Level: There is only ONE division spanning from beginners to elite players. If you are an elite player, then please recognize this as an opportunity to help teach less experienced players and stay in shape over the winter. If you are a relatively new ultimate player, please recognize that indoor is fast moving, non-stop action, and can be a difficult environment to learn how to play the game.

Tournament: There will be some form of playoffs 2/28 and 3/6. Actual format will be determined after registration when we know how many teams there will be.

Captains: Please consider being a captain if you have played indoor ultimate before. If you do not have a co-captain then we will try to match you up with a co-captain because we prefer each team to have at least two captains.

Brief Rules (just to give you an idea of what you are getting into):

  • Games are played with 5 players on the field for each team. Gender ratio should be 3:2 men to women, but this is subject to change.
  • Games are timed rather than playing to a certain score.  Halves are 30 minutes each with a 5 minute half-time.
  • One time out per team per game. Time outs are only one minute long and can only be called by the team on offense. Time outs cannot be taken during the last two minutes of a half.
  • There will be a horn to signal the start of each round of games. There will also be a single horn blown with 2 minutes remaining in each half, and a double horn blown to signal the end of the each half.
  • Scoring is make it take it style, meaning as soon as you score in one endzone, you immediately turn around and start trying to score in the other direction. Change of possession only occurs on a turnover.
  • When a team scores, the player with the disc must tap it on the ground to indicate the score before play can continue in the other direction.
  • Substitutions are done on the fly – meaning at any point during game play a player may exit at half court, slapping hands with the player who is coming on for them.
  • Stall count begins at “Stall 6”
  • If a disc touches the bleachers/lights/etc. it is considered out of bounds.
  • Any out of bounds disc will be tapped back into play at the closet point on the field to where the DISC COMES TO REST, not where the disc first went out of bounds. This is to keep the pace of play moving.
  • There will be a pull at the start of each half – has to be an upside down pull.
  • Pulls are the only throws that will be put into play where they go out of bounds. If the pull goes out of the back or side of the endzone, then put it into play at the front of the end zone.
  • NO 2-point throws from one endzone to the other endzone. There will probably be some more detailed rules or more explanation needed before games start, but this should give you the idea of what games will be like.

 Baggage Notes:

What is Baggage? On the registration page you'll see a box to allow you to enter the name of ONE person to "baggage" with, meaning you want to be placed on the same team together.

  • Requests are limited to significant others, immediate family and housemates.
  • Players on traveling club teams may not make baggage requests together.
  • Each player in a baggage train must fill out a separate registration form.
  • Each member of a baggage train will be required to enter the first and last name of the other person in the baggage train (this also provides confirmation that both people want to baggage).
