The best way to find out about pickup games happening around DC is to join the DCPickup Yahoo Group.  This is run independent of WAFC, but anytime WAFC sponsors a pickup game it will be posted to both wafc.org and to the DCPickup Yahoo Group.  You can register for DCPickup by clicking on this link:

Dearth of Pickups

Yo, all interested in pickup.

Preface, bragging: I'm so old that I was around when SMUT was playing (that's 1982-1984) and people are STILL around whom I played with, so bear with me.

When you get old, there's this thing that happens to joints and muscles, so that's a constraint. Then again, there are folks that try to stay true to the way the game really has evolved.

The lunchtime crowd on the mall don't countdown on D, may not even spot, generally don't go man, and allow the boundaries to be small, and variable. That style may not jive with purists. But for some, it does jive, and "cool on to them" I say.

My understanding is that there are loads of people looking for pickup, and there are a number of fields available (depending where, of course), so I'm surprised WAFC has not been as proactive in organizing it, or at least farming it out better. Are they concerned it would take the place of formal league play? I hope not but I dunno. I have little idea how X, Y and Z generations respond to anything, but I do know when it comes to sport all of youall are taking things way more seriously. Anyway, it would be good to see more pickup opportunities during the week, with more light, now that Spring is here.

Pickup

I just moved into the area and I was hoping that I could find a schedule of where people play pickup, and when. So far I can't really find anythingl ike that on this site, could anyone help me out and point me in the right direction? Thanks.

That group might be helpful. Hopefully we can integrate that discussion into this new site but for now they are still separate.
