2010 Spring Clique League Notice

Spring Clique league registration will be opening up shortly (this coming week). With the city thawing from winter and the days getting longer it's time to sort out rosters, schedules, and figure out where your cleats went. The league organizers are figuring out the details of the schedules, fields, and tournament dates (which are needed before we can open registration).

There are important changes to Clique league this year, please be sure to read the below information and pass it along to your teammates and friends.

This upcoming season WAFC is going to start running clique league differently from year’s past. Due to several different factors, there will not be a $350 fee for each clique team. Instead, we will be instituting a per player fee of $25.

There are several reasons for doing this:

  1. Rec League fees have been $25 for years, this places the same cost on Clique League participants as Rec League, making it equal across leagues.
  2. Decreasing availability of fields, rising field costs and as well as increased demand for fields in the D.C. area mean league fees need to increase just to maintain the same levels of play as in previous years.
  3. This reduces the burden on captains of collecting money. Many captains are shorted every year by players who forget to pay, and WAFC could not function nearly as well without the help of its captains year after year.
  4. Each participant will check a box when signing up, agreeing to a liability waiver when they sign up. This helps to protect WAFC from liability in the case of an accident, as well as removes the burden from captains of having his/her players agree to the waiver on the website at a later date.

The process is still being finished but here is how it will ultimately be implemented:

  1. WAFC will open up pre-registration for captains only to register their team.
  2. After the pre-registration period ends, individual players will then be able to sign up and select their team from the drop down box.
  3. Once a team has the minimum number of players (15) registered and paid, they will be confirmed.

Note: Even if your team reaches the minimum number of players, everyone who wishes to play during the season must register for liability reasons. This will be strictly enforced, particularly drawing closer to tournament time. If you have 15 people registered on the website and 20 people on the sidelines, it will not be hard to catch you and subsequently disqualify your team.

It is not lightly that we come to the conclusion of raising league fees for clique. However when faced with the reasons listed above, particularly large increases in field fees as well as increased concerns about liability, it quickly becomes apparent that there are no alternatives. Also, this raises the cost of clique to be more equal with Rec, and still cheap in the D.C. area when compared with leagues such as kickball or bocce ball.

    Sincerely,

    The WAFC Board

Thanks

No pre-registration yet.

No pre-registration yet. We're still sorting out the details. This weekend is the goal we're working towards and assuming we don't run into any major problems with the technical issues that should be reasonable. The dates/deadlines are just about finalized but we'll hold off on releasing that info until we're sure of the start/finish/tournament dates.
