Volunteering
Advertising and marketing volunteers help to promote WAFC interests around DC and in the Ultimate community. This includes helping to coordinate interviews with media, designing handouts and other materials, and associated activities.
Community outreach volunteers work with local organizations to build relationships and give back to the community. An example of this work was the 2008 tree planting project at Lake Fairfax.
Field managers help to locate, reserve, and schedule fields for use by WAFC leagues and tournaments. These volunteers typically work in the county they live in because most fields are managed by the county government. Teachers are also good field managers because they can help coordinate field permits with the school or district.
League management volunteers help to setup and run the various WAFC leagues. This includes registration, scheduling, team organizations, league tournament coordination, field scheduling, etc. League managers do not need to play in the league(s) they help manage.
Tournament managers help to run the various WAFC-related annual tournaments such as Fools Fest, Savage Seven, St. Hatrick's Day, and DA-BUT. There are many elements to running a tournament from advertising to scheduling to budgeting to sanitation planning! Tournament management volunteers do not need to play in the tournaments they manage (and many don't because they don't have time).
Website and technical volunteers help to keep WAFC's website and other technical stuff running. These projects range from graphic design (logos and themes) to PHP and MySQL work to user interface design to SMS messaging configuration.
