Website Volunteers

We're looking for volunteers to help with the new WAFC website. Here are some of the tasks that could use some attention:

  • Site maintainer - provide periodic support to apply updates to the website, etc. This is a good position for an experienced system administrator with knowledge of *nix tasks (cron, unpacking archives, etc.) and requires either experience or a willingness to learn Apache (mod_rewrite, for example) and Drupal details (e.g., deploying and configuring new modules, or hacking some PHP on occassion). If you're looking to learn about this stuff that's also an option although a high degree of personal research time will be needed to come up to speed (be prepared to stand up your own development environment to play with).
  • Site moderator - help keep the site clean and free from bad posts (spam, flame wars, etc.). This is a semi-technical role with all the work being done via the web browser but requiring some learning to figure out the admin interfaces. Perfect for someone who like to work on the web but isn't into the *nix and backend technology stuff.
  • Writers - provide content for the site like reviews of tournaments, discussions about leagues, articles on things related to Ultimate (e.g., injury prevention, gear selection, etc.). This is a non-technical job and anyone who can write an email in Gmail can help here.
  • Graphic designers - we're looking for alternative themes to use and/or make available to use. Drupal allows us to provide a default theme for the site and also allow users to select a preferred theme. The current theme is essentially the default Drupal theme and we'd like to find something a little more WAFC-specific. If you're a graphic artist/website designer and want to help with this please let us know. Tasks in this area range from pretty technical CSS-related stuff to pure graphic design of logos, buttons, icons, etc., so we could easily have a wide variety of people working on a new theme, or even a few themes at once.

Use the contact form to touch base and let us know that you're interested in helping out. Or just post a note in this group.
